Redskins could look to help run game on Day 2 of NFL draft

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) The Washington Redskins could decide it's time to help their running game on Day 2 of the NFL draft.

After addressing a need to stop opponents on the ground by picking Alabama defensive tackle Da'Ron Payne 13th overall, the Redskins might want to improve their own rushing offense, perhaps with a running back or a left guard.

They head into Friday with one second-round choice, 44th overall, and nothing in the third, because that pick was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs as part of the package that brought quarterback Alex Smith to Washington.

Only four teams ran for fewer yards than the Redskins did last season.

Rookie Samaje Perine gained 603 yards on 175 carries, a 3.4 average, and was the only running back on the roster who rushed for more than 300.
